Qigong is an ancient Chinese system of exercise and meditation that makes the mind and spirit tranquil, improves performance, and cultivates health, well-being, and longevity. Thus, there are three major kinds of qigong: spiritual, health, and martial arts. Our focus is on Qigong for health and spiritual development. "Qigong" is made up of two words in Chinese and pronounced as "Chi Gong". "Qi" means energy, life force or vital force. "Gong" means effort or cultivation. So Qigong means cultivating the Qi. As a life force, Qi holds the organs, glands, blood vessels and other body parts in place. As stated by Qigong Master Mantak Chia, health and healing depend on quantity and quality of Qi in the body, and working with Qi to heal the body is a form of "needleless" acupuncture. Practising Qigong allows us to play with our internal energy for circulation and refinement. It also enables us to interact consciously with the earth energy and the universal force to strengthen our internal Qi. |
