| PILATES BODY CONDITIONING |
Pilates is a mind/body exercise method that is designed to give you strong and flexible muscles without building bulk. It focuses on strengthening the core stabilising muscles of the body, including the pelvic floor, deep abdominals (transverses abdominus), buttock muscles and the postural shoulder muscles.
At the same time it works on increasing the flexibility of the larger tighter muscle groups to create a more balanced body.
Pilates consists of a series of matwork exercises plus exercises performed on specialised Pilates equipment. The exercises at a beginners level are quite simple, focusing on activating the core stabilising muscles. As you improve, the exercises progressively become more complex and challenging, incorporating a full body workout.
The end result is a strong and flexible body, with a flat stomach, shaped legs, strong back and toned upper body. Pilates teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. It also improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion. It helps alleviate back pain, and also improves athletic performance. |
